Extension of the validity of annual electronic vignettes
The National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia has adopted an intervention act extending the validity of all annual e-vignettes that will still be valid on 1 December 2025, by four (4) months from their original expiry date.
Annual e-vignettes purchased or becoming valid on or after 2 December 2025 will remain valid for 12 months, as before. Weekly, monthly and semi-annual e-vignettes are exempt from the measure, so their validity remains unchanged.
What do I need to do to extend the validity of my annual e-vignette?
The extension will be carried out completely automatically by DARS, so users do not need to do anything.
The extension applies to all annual e-vignettes that meet the above condition, for all toll classes (1, 2A and 2B), regardless of the country of registration of the vehicle for which the e-vignette was purchased.
The aforementioned extension of validity applies to all annual e-vignettes that are still valid on 1 December 2025. The act does not cover e-vignettes that expire before 1 December 2025. This means that all e-vignettes that became valid before 1 December 2024 are not and cannot be included in the validity extension measure.
Example 1:
If the e-vignette became valid on 4 February 2025, its validity would expire on 4 February 2026. However, as this e-vignette was still valid on the cut-off date (1 December 2025), its validity will be automatically extended by four months – until 4 June 2026.
Example 2:
If the e-vignette became valid on 13 November 2024 and therefore expired on 13 November 2025, and the toll payer used the toll road in the same vehicle after that date without purchasing a new e-vignette, they will have committed a minor offence by using the toll road without a valid e-vignette.
E-vignette validity verification
When using the e-vignette validity verification tool on our website, the extension of validity will be taken into account as of 2 December 2025. This means that all annual vignettes purchased or becoming valid on 1 December 2025 will be included in the extension. You will be able to check the exact expiry date of individual e-vignettes from 2 December 2025 onwards at this link.
The purchase certificate for all annual e-vignettes whose validity will be extended will still show the date on which they would otherwise have expired as their expiry date. This is still an annual e-vignette, which, under the Road Tolling Act, is valid for 12 months from the date on which it becomes valid. The extension is a one-off measure that will extend their use by an additional four months.
Example 1:
The purchase certificate for an annual e-vignette becoming valid on 1 December 2025 will state 1 December 2026 as the expiry date, even though, in accordance with the adopted measure, it will actually be valid until 1 April 2027.
When using the online e-vignette verification tool (after 2 December 2025), the actual expiry date will be displayed, which is 1 April 2027.
Example 2:
The purchase certificate for an e-vignette that became valid on 15 June 2025, which can be accessed via your user account in the online e-vignette shop, states 15 June 2026 as the expiry date, even though, in accordance with the adopted measure, it will actually be valid until 15 October 2026. When using the online e-vignette verification tool (after 2 December 2025), the actual expiry date will be displayed, which is 15 October 2026.
E-vignette expiration reminders
Buyers of annual e-vignettes who have set up system notifications about their expiry date will receive reminders in accordance with their selected settings, but before the new, extended validity period expires.
We advise all other buyers to:
- note the new expiry date, or
- register as users of the online e-vignette shop, add the purchased e-vignette to their user account and set up a reminder to be sent to their email address and/or selected mobile phone number.
Refund of the residual value of the annual e-vignette
There are no changes to refunds of the residual value of the e-vignette.
For e-vignettes whose validity has been extended, a refund of the residual value for the period of the extension is not possible. This means that a refund of the residual value is only possible for the first 12 months from the date the e-vignette becomes valid.
